If you love an image (whether it's yours or someone else's) and want to make sure others get a chance to see it, you can “feature” it by choosing the “Spotlight” button.
When an image is Spotlighted, it receives enhanced visibility in premium spots throughout the site. Spotlighted images are rotated through these higher-visibility positions to ensure the best opportunity for the images to be seen by JPG users.
If you see a great photo that would make a perfect entry for one of our Shoot Out photo contests but it was uploaded by another user, now you can enter that photo in the contest and, if it wins, you get to share in the contest winnings.
Like a photo editor, if you've got an eye for great work, find it and submit it to a contest. If it wins, since you staked the entry fee, you'll take home part of the prize (the rest, of course, goes to the member who shot the image).

While we were on our Safari in Tanzania the guide heard over the radio that the lions were by the watering hole, so of course we hurried over in our big land rover. When we finally got there we were astonished to see three cubs sitting there on a hill by the watering hole. It was amazing! I'd never seen anything like it. The three cubs were only a few months old but were already huge, and to see them all together was breathtaking.
We watched in silence for about ten minutes, taking pictures and observing. Then the woman sitting beside me began to shift uncomfortably in her seat and said, "Where's the mama?" Our guide then pointed to a patch of grass not five feet from the land rover and laughed at us. I'm assuming our expressions were pretty amusing.
Then after a few more minutes of us gawking at this beautiful, dangerous creature just laying there watching us lazily as she tried to catch some Z's, the driver started the car and drove us even closer...
and that's when I got this picture.
