[One block removed from U.S. Highway 66, in Oatman, Arizona]

Please see the previous upload for background.

The Oatman hillside was so reminiscent of the slums ("favelas") I saw in Rio de Janeiro, when I was growing up there in the mid-50s.

A thin line separates prosperity and poverty.

[I am in the Rocky Mountain West for the rest of October, and I will not have Internet every day. But, I will catch up with all of your photos eventually! Thanks.]

Thank heavens there's a laundromat!! I cannot imagine living this way for even a few days. It seems so very depressing, but I am only on the outside looking in. Life is what you make it. Another superb collage!!

Such wonderful fodder for photos! I remember camping along the coast in a small trailer years ago. Not really the best experience when at 13 you're confined in a small place with your parents.

I think of the people who have made these little shacks their homes...and wish them much happiness. Because it might not be a mansion but each one is a home for someone. You are so right Cap'n...such a thin line.

I so agree these are all people making a home and making the best of it in their own way. Yes, you are correct, such a thin line... and in today's world more people are facing similar situations to this. Thank you for pointing it out!

I agree that not all of us have mansions or even nice houses, but there is beauty to be found in the simple things of life.

Very well captured.. gives one a true sense of how many are coping in tough times.. and I admire their determination to make the best of it.

An interesting collage of ramshackle buildings. The terrain is so barren and rough. It looks very unforgiving.
