This is a tribute to a tough little squirrel who survived being carried away by a hawk. We thought that was the end of him.. but some time later he returned to our feeders, having lost the sight in one eye, he struggled with jaw problems too. It was heartwrenching to see him this way, yet he insisted on taking control again of the comings and goings at the feeder. We lost our little friend today, but the memory of being able to pet him and talk to him and provide him with special delicacies to help him along, will remain..

aka 'the professor' .. pictured here previously this summer

These little folks have a hard life. Just know you took good care of him and he knew he was loved. He will join the family at Beyond the Bridge and will meet us one day. RIP Little Prof.

I think, about now, Mr. Prof is learning where the local stash of nuts and berries are stored as the all the residents of RBB get ready for a Grand Thanksgiving dinner. This will be his first Thanksgiving away from his beloved home. He is no longer blind and is a very busy little fellow. RIP little one and we will remember you and be thankful your caretaker was able to take care of you so long. I know she misses you but know you are not forgotten.
