Trying out a different submission for the "Creative Portraiture" challenge.

This is one of four members of the Mexican percussion ensemble, Tambuco. They are a world-class act with three Grammy nominations and I was so privileged to be able to enjoy - and enjoy shooting - their performance at The Esplanade, Singapore, as part of this year's SUN Festival.

For this portrait, I deliberately focused on the tip of his wood block rather than his face / eyes. The fact that his eyes are closed is a bonus. I have another shot with eyes open but I feel the closed eyes again draws attention away from his face to the very simple instrument that he is playing.

This was shot just a few hours before I saw the "Creative Portraiture" challenge. I had initially submitted another portrait, which, personally I like better. But I think this fits the challenge theme better.
