Fifth-century B.C. Tempio di Nettuno (Temple of Neptune) at Paestrum (near Pompeii) is among the world’s greatest preserved Doric temples. Paestum was originally a colony called Poseidonia, founded by the Greeks in the 6th century B.C.and then absorbed by the Romans in 273 B.C.
