I hadn't been to my aunt's home in Kentucky since I was like 5 or 6...that was until this summer when I returned for her funeral. When I was young, I remembered it as a place that was so different from my home and hometown, but still possessed the key characteristics that made up a genuine and welcoming home. I loved it there. There were a few things that I remembered from my childhood as I traveled back to KY, things I knew I never would forget: a barn-like shed in her back yard, a merry-go-round in the park right on the other side of her fence that I played on so frequently with my cousins, and two gnome-like statues in her back yard. Upon arrival this summer, I found the shed to be much smaller than I remembered and the merry-go-round was uprooted and gone; however my statues were there. These are they and thus this picture has a lot of significance to me as I do not know when I will be able to return to visit them again.
