A young Burmese girl begs with her mother and younger brother at the pagoda festival in her village. The girl and her family are part of a traditional caste (or class) of professional beggars in Burma and have occupied this role in society for centuries. Incongruously, the families are relatively well off and do not need to beg to survive. Several years ago the government convened a meeting with the caste elders and absolved them of their role as traditional beggars. However, they continue to beg.
