As the sun dipped to the horizon I captured this image at the historical site of Paestum (near Pompeii), originally Poseidonia, a colony founded by the Greeks in 6th century B.C. When the Romans took over this town in 273 B.C. they renamed it Paestum. The ancient ruins of this colony, nestled in flower-filled meadows with views of distant mountains, are romantic, as well as beautiful. The three well-preserved Doric temples there are among the finest in the world. Here you see a part of Tempio di Cere (Temple of Ceres), built around the end of the 6th century. This beautiful temple was dedicated to the goddess Athena. I’ve no idea what those wildflowers are, but they gave off a wonderful heady scent.

Wonderful composition, Deb!! Great POV and warm light. That plant looks like plain old clover to me.

Thanks, Don. As far as the plant, we, too, at first thought it was clover, but it wasn't.

How beautiful! An excellent shot, Deb. The composition is so great with the varying levels that lead the eye back to the ruins.

Thanks everyone. A special thanks to Debrah for the spotlight. Debrah you're very observant. I captured this shot on very uneven ground. I noticed the tilt and was going to straighten the pic and then decided I liked it the way it is.
