In 1976 I gave this necklace to the love of my life. She's worn it every day since. It has been through every shower and bath, every sunny or rainy day. It was around her neck when she was diagnosed with cancer and there the day of her last treatment. It has blown in the wind of every motorcycle mile we've traveled, been immersed in oceans and rivers, and polished by the tongue of many a pet. It has been tethered to numerous chains and, after 34 years of penduluming against her chest, its plating wears thin. Yet, it reminds us of the day we made our promise - of a life of romance and adventure - two number 1's, side by side, forever.
