The lake is in drawdown to kill the vegetation in the cold. I was on the dock across the street watching the bass feed and when I turned around, look who was below me.

I'm thinking this didn't reproduce right but you can see how difficult a cottonmouth moccasin is to see in the leaves, light and shadow. perfect camo. That open mouth, the warning, is unmistakable. It is pure white.

And scary.

    Dad used to take us fishing to his favorite lake. He had to yell at us kids playing in the water's edge with one of these snakes about a foot away. (And I've always hated snakes, including the garter snakes in my yard!)
