  I only converted to black and white and cropped. I shot it in color, with a flash in a dark, empty room (and I was wearing black!). When I converted to b/w, my black-shirted arms sorta fell into nothingness, and the wall waaaaaaaay in the background became "invisible," too.
  I don't do a lot of editing because I don't have Photoshop or anything like that. I'm limited to adjusting color and size, and sometimes that's a bummer, but often I'm glad because it refines my real-time eye. :)
