Mono
Last night around 2am I saw Mono on the Essex Street platform. Actually I first saw those massive gauges and knew I had to get a photo.
"Hey"
"Hey"
"Can I get a photo of your gauges? They're awesome."
He smiled, looked down.
"Yea, I know, right?"
His friend to the left started chuckling.
"Do a lot of people ask?" I said.
"Yea but most of the time not nicely. You know, mostly ghetto people."
I took about 6 photos. The gauges are 2 and half inches in size. Mono had to go through some rigorous stretching to get his ear lobes that stretched. He used bic pens, quarters and padlocks to stretch them out. It was a process that took 2 and half years.
"You ever think about going bigger?"
He laughed. "Uhhh no. I can't get work and I need a job."

I think it's the story that makes this photos. It's one thing to photograph someone that looks a bit different/interesting. And his appearance obviously stands out. I like that his expression is really shy in contrast.

I would hire him. But I do mostly videography and I don't have an office or a store front that I would worry about, if I worried about those things.
