She was honored on this years Academy Awards...
I was fortunate to see her perform in New York City in the early '80's at Carnegie Hall. Incredible Jazz !
She was an American singer, actress, civil rights activist and dancer.
A favorite of mine...
Stormy Weather, a 1943 Musical Film thought of as a "time capsule" with some of the top African-American performers of the time, during an era when black actors and singers rarely appeared in lead roles in mainstream Hollywood productions, especially of the genre, musicals.
