Biking in Old Town Murten
(Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland)
I posted yesterday an image of a beautiful sunset on Lake Murten, Switzerland. Today picture was taken inside the old town with the same name, from the walls surrounding the city. A biker was passing just in that moment, adding the right atmosphere to a photo otherwise not very original. I could not thank this unknown biker, but I owe him a lot to this image that I particularly like. The location was already mentioned in 515 under the name Moritum, but a new city was founded in 1170. Today, Murten is the capital of the See/Lac District of the canton of Fribourg, and a place rich in history. It is one of the municipalities with a large majority (about 75%) of German speakers in the predominantly French-speaking Canton of Fribourg. Tourism is one of the highlights of this town that has implemented strict regulations for buildings and heritage protection. The old walls still surround the entire city, reflecting the frequent conflicts in the history of the region.
