Though it could be a caricature of a hand saying "No. 1," I suspect it is a make-shift gun, in the hand of a child who is exposure to guns is entirely too great for his age? Wonderfully suggestive capture, Clare.

You are absolutely right Nadeem. I was shooting some work for a coffee client (a while ago now) and children were amassed at the fence watching me. This little boy was holding his make-shift gun in his hand (made from papyrus I think) and I took the opportunity to take this photograph. Uganda is known for issues with Child Soldiers being recruited into the LRA. Fortunately this little boy was in Mbale, not near the North where this tends to happen.
