Q: So how many issues of JPG magazine were produced?

A: Do you know?

It may be summer time in the French Riviera but the man at this booth in the flea market became very unfriendly when I raised my little Leicababy (Leica D-Lux 3) to take this shot. I was attracted to it because it would make a good photo for the "Second Glance" in the WaPo Magazine where they take two shots of a detailed scene and remove details. The game is to pick out all the differences between the two pics. The man at the booth in this very public place, the flea market at Eastern Market, seemed to not understand that the public has a right to take photos in public spaces. Heaven knows what he would have done if I had had the big camera with me. The Leicababy is about as unobtrusive and "point and shoot" looking as you can get. Paranoia abounds!

It is a great capture, and I can see why it would make such a wonderful shot for the "Second Glance". Too bad the man was so upset at you! Maybe he thought you were going to make prints of his prints.

if you can see it with your eyes, you can photograph it. The only rights the vendor would have, is to ask you to leave his rented spot, but you can snap as many pics from outside the tent as you like, no matter what the vendor says. The key here is you can't take a picture of artwork and reproduce it to sell. You are free to reproduce it for yourself... If people don't want their stuff photographed, they must cover it. So, snap away all day ! HEY were you at the Eastern Market in dc? ;o)

Yes, Peggy, you are right... the Eastern Market in DC.

Yes, I got that reaction at the Horticulture Fair last weekend several times. People would tell me they did not want me taking a macro of water spraying out of a nozzle because it was their art. I can appreciate that to a point, but its very negative and made me immediate walk from their exhibits.
