A serious counterpoint to the photo below this in my gallery -- this is at the Armed Forces Memorial at Town Point Park in downtown Norfolk, VA. Beautiful spot -- along the Elizabeth River across from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where my wife and I spent much of our Navy careers. The memorial is a group of bronze plaques of portions of letter home from soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who died during war. They span the time from the Revolutionary War to the present. War is an ugly thing and not to be taken lightly. We turn too often to the military for solutions that are better achieved by different approaches.

Heart-wrenching letter. I agree with your narrative....look at where we are today! It seems there must be a better way! Thank you so much for posting this.
