If you love an image (whether it's yours or someone else's) and want to make sure others get a chance to see it, you can “feature” it by choosing the “Spotlight” button.
When an image is Spotlighted, it receives enhanced visibility in premium spots throughout the site. Spotlighted images are rotated through these higher-visibility positions to ensure the best opportunity for the images to be seen by JPG users.
If you see a great photo that would make a perfect entry for one of our Shoot Out photo contests but it was uploaded by another user, now you can enter that photo in the contest and, if it wins, you get to share in the contest winnings.
Like a photo editor, if you've got an eye for great work, find it and submit it to a contest. If it wins, since you staked the entry fee, you'll take home part of the prize (the rest, of course, goes to the member who shot the image).

I recently found some photo lights on Craig's List for CHEAP (yay!) and set them up the other night to try and learn a little about lighting. I was all set for a peaceful evening, exploring the nuances of light and shadow.
I was experimenting with a shell, but realized too late that I should have left the lights up for a couple of days so the cats could become more familiar with them. The cats would NOT stay off the dining room table where I was working (thank God for Varythane!) They were too curious about the lights, the shell, my camera, and of course what the other one was doing. Before I knew it Smokey came crashing down through the top screen of my light box, on top of the shell and Sam, who was busy exploring the shell inside. I figured Smokey thought it was a stiff box and would support him, but when he did it a second time I knew better. A fight erupted and eventually this was my picture for the evening.
