While staying at a small village

up the hills

I woke up one morning

to find a bare bottom 5 year old boy

holding a big machete

And skillfully carving himself

a cricket bat out of

a dry coconut branch.

With no adult supervision he skillfully sculpt the bat with precision while squatting fully balanced in front of his workbench: a curved wooden log. Location: Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu. Transportation: a government bus from the town of Kallakurichi.
