I met Gordon on a street in Denver. He was dusty, down and out but spoke refined English. He recognised that I was not American and apologised for being "inebriated". I don't know why he was hanging out by the medical marijuana store; he was looking for the type of fix that came from a bottle.
"Do you know Kentucky?" he asked me, "It's a fine whisky".
And what he was smoking came from Virginia.
He asked me to take his photograph...
