This shot came about after three hours of patience using an open shutter and a piece of cardboard! The first hour was spent with me running around to different parts of the beach to follow the storm and the last two hours were from my balcony.
Lightning strikes in Hawaii are actually not that common but on the day this image was captured the National Weather Service recorded over 14,000 strikes in 24 hours on Oahu.
Canon EOS Rebel, f/4, 25 sec. exposure (reduced approx. 10 seconds w/cardboard), ISO-100, focal length 28mm
