Seattle WTO Riot Police
Seattle, WA. December 1999.
WTO Riots that spilled over to the neighborhoods in the evening. This is the Capitol Hill District. One block from my apt.
Remember when people used to march and protest in this country? I had never experienced anything like these WTO riots.
Most of the people here were residents just seeing what was going on. 10-15 minutes from when I shot this, the cops let the tear gas fly and started pelting people with bean bag guns. Overkill. Good times.

I lived in the apartment building straight down the street from this picture. I was seven months pregnant at the time and new to Seattle. Even with the wet towels that my husband and I stuffed in the windows, the tear gas leaked through.
