The horned grebe was sitting on her nest this morning. I wasn't aware she was even on it or I wouldn't have come up so close, but she stayed put while I grabbed a couple of pictures using manual focus. This pair nested successfully last year, raising three young.

Amazing shot...She probably was aware you were there but she is used to your presence and didn't feel threatened.
