I promised a few civil war reenactment photos and here is the first. I took this at Andersonville, Georgia. They do a big reenactment every year. Andersonville was the site of one of the worst civil war prisons. The death toll was enourmous. Such a sad sad place.

In the History photo essay.

Beautiful realism!! You've really captured their fatigue and tension here. Can you imagine wearing that stifling hot wool in South Georgia?? Yikes

You are right Donald. Lately, we have had temps in the 100s. That is not counting the heat index and humidity. What happened to spring?

This is a great image, Regenia.... I went to one of those re-enactments in our town some years back ...It really brings the history to you with their good acting skills... The temperatures in the high heat index with humidity...Acting here no doubt became a part of realism wearing those hot uniforms!

What a wonderful way of bringing history to life, but it sounds daunting in such heat. Terrific image!!

Great shot of the reenactors, Regenia. These are the people for which Dave crafts the muzzleloaders.....although his are more from the French-Indian War effort. It was a horrible war. We used to be reenactors and it was quite an educational venture. I lost two cousins at Andersonville from starvation. Dave lost a grandfather, Pellatiah Perkins, at Andersonville. He is buried in the little cemetery just a short walk up the road from us. What a great photo of the uniforms, accessories, etc., they young men and boys wore....and under some of the most inclement weather conditions. Very beautifully captured, Regenia!!!!

I guess that reenactments are educationally helpful in making history come to life, but wouldn't it be even better if we could stop all wars and the tragic loss of life?

Kin of mine was captured and sent to Andersonville. He survived there until he was released at the end of the war. He made his way to Memphis to a ship that was transporting soldiers back North. The ship exploded and killed most onboard. I found no record of where his body wound up.
