This young civil war reenactor is taking a break and trying to capture some shade. The prisoners were held in an open field to suffer all the Georgia elements. Anyone that has ever been to Middle Georgia can tell you that we have the craziest weather. Our winters can be very wet and cold and our summers have temps in the 100s. The humitiy is horrible. There is rarely a spring or fall. The prisoners faced the worst conditions and I have often wondered how the health of the ones that did make it out alive fared. I would imagine it had serious effects.

In a perfect world, I would have moved in on this shot and used a little flash for fill to rid the hotspots but there was a do not cross line and it was over the 10 foot mark for flash. Oh well. Catch them as you can.

In the History photo essay.

This one makes me think of the boys who fought in the war. Especially in the South, they would lie about their age to join up. My Great Grandfather did this and fought for SC at age 14... You captured this one very well!

The natural light and shade works for me in this one! Excellent capture! It is nice to see a young person taking an interest in American history. We need to get the schools to redouble their efforts in teaching it to our youth.

You did an amazing job (as always) capturing this perfectly. He does look really hot....I can't imagine what it must have been like to be a soldier back then.

this is really a good capture,,the expression on the young boy's face is very pensive, I can only imagine how it was during that time, and yes, I was thinking the same thing as Jim, how young they were...excellent Regenia

I think this is a wonderful shot and the acting becomes a reality when the heat is so unbearable...We had temperatures like that yesterday and I can only imagine how hot those uniforms are...

that must have been very hard to go through the re-enactment in long sleeve wool clothing. you've captured this perfectly.
