Pu'u Hinai is South Kohala near Waikoloa Village. A pu'u is a hill or a cinder cone. Pu'u Hinai is a cinder cone. Unfortunately, it was desecrated by a firm extracting volcanic cinder from the back side of it. This posting was inspired by Jeff Weber who asked it I every shot the cinder cone near Waikola Road. I had and here it is, jeff.

As in earlier series, this image is not a framed image that has been photograph. It has been digitally framed.

Jeff Weber gave props (21 Jun 2011):

Thanks for posting it, Michael. I accidentally ran across this cinder cone about 15 years ago, and I am drawn back every time I visit the Big Island. It has a powerful "Whoa . . . Something happened here!!" quality, made even stronger by the serenity of the setting. It's truly a crime that they are digging it up. Great image here - stronger than any of mine.
