Yes, they do rattle pretty loudly.
This animal is one of my top 3 on my "wish" list. The other two are an owl and a bobcat.
For many years I've wanted to come across one of these guys in the wild, and this weekend was the right time.
They're very fair, they rattle and stay pretty still, therefore getting bit at that point is only your own fault.
Seeing this made my day, even though I was so excited that I pretty much forgot how to take photos at that point.
Funny how that happens.

You should have come here. They crawl up in the yard all the time and they are very very noisy but beautiful. Great shot!!!

Wow....amazing that it's on my top 3 list too......of things I NEVER want to see in the wild or in my yard!!!! The only zen happening if I saw one would be fro-zen!! I'd be too scared to move!!
