As my friend Julie and I headed up this street towards the magnificent 16th century garden within the Italian village of Bagnaia, this sweet little Italian girl in a bright red dress and shaking a set of keys greeted us with a big smile. The young woman with her was obviously her mother and I’m almost certain one of the two elderly women lavishing her with attention was her grandmother. All three women appeared most pleased that we wanted to photograph this endearing child, but when we pointed our cameras at her, she giggled and held the keys in front of her face. She kept doing that. Plus she followed us with her mother close behind, as we slowly made our way up the street, stopping periodically with the hope of capturing her without the keys masking her face. Thankfully, as wee ones are apt to do, she at times got distracted to where we could. For me her expression in this shot not only reflects her priceless wonderment of a beautiful new day, but ours over this new keepsake moment.
