For the last 15 years, my eldest brother has competed in a local demolition derby. Having won the event many times, he'd decided this year was the last and asked me to come document the action. A picture can't fully convey the sights, sounds and smells of the destruction... But a moment "in the pits" between heats is well represented by this striking image. There is a footnote to this photograph. Despite breaking a tie-rod in the first round, my brother made the repairs and came back in the second round for the win. Comments are welcome.
