And they sung a new song, saying thou art worthy to take the book..
Revelations 5:9

I couldn't let the night go by
Without saying thank you
How quickly the years fly.
Happy birthday, 102.
You are an inspiration
Mother, and I love you.

I shot this picture during the program in the afternoon...some of the angles
were not too easy in this small church and I got up on the platform in front of the congregation to shoot this portrait. I tried to be as inconspicuous as I could and hopefully without too much distraction....I love my mother's beautiful hands and
the nice manicures they are giving her at the Nursing Home.

I am so thankful that she can still play the piano and that memory has not left
her when so many of her other memories have gone. I called her tonight to wish
her a happy birthday and she was wondering if her parents were still living...
But this is part of her dementia and as hard as it is to hear her talk this way, I
have learned to accept it...and to appreciate her for who she is and was.

Your mother looks so wonderful and I am so glad that this talent has not left her. This is a priceless capture. I am sure everyone had rather you get the image and have to deal with a short distraction.

Overwhelming in so many ways. I am taking my mother (87) to Maine for two weeks. Each year, she says, "this is the last year." I figure she has another 15 to go!

What a great shot of your dear mom, still playing the piano at 102 in spite of the dementia. Dementia is so hard to understand how some memories go and others stay. We had that with my dad also and like you, we had to accept it and appreciate him for who he was. He was dearly loved and at least knew that and I am sure that your mom knows that also.

Superb capture of your lovely mom! The mind is an incredible thing; isn't it wonderful that in spite of the dementia, she can still play the piano!

Thank you everyone for your kind words...Yes, the brain is truly remarkable and
if you can remember what gives you joy in your life and keep those memories
intact, then you haven't lost too much before you make your final journey to your
    eternal home....

I love this portrait of your beloved mother, Andrea. You really captured her beautifully, doing what she obviously loves with all her being. I am so glad that you are enjoying this part of her life as much as possible too. Life is really all about changes, some good, some difficult, but all are part of the life cycle. My mother's only real memory now is of my dad....she'll never forget him. He was her life, and she doesn't know that he's been with God for the past five years. Thank God for the memories with which we are blessed!!!!
