These red berries are related to the wintergreen family. They remind me of "Teaberry chewing gum." They are really tasty and are a good pain reliever. They are also known as "mountain tea" and do make a good spicy and mint flavored tea which settles the stomach. We have thousands of them growing back in our woods now. This was taken early today.

Nice shadows! Do you make the pain reliever with the berries or the leaves?

Patty Gross said (2 Aug 2011):
Nancy, you make the pain reliever, methyl salicylate, the leaves and branches must be fermented in warm water for several days before you drink it. The leaves and branches when properly dried and infused also make a good tea. :)

Sometimes I wonder if the home remedies such as you mention here, do more good and are more healthy than some of the commerical pain relievers and not as addictive either....Great shot and information.
