For more than 36 years, Corita Kent's art has punctuated Boston's skyline at Commercial Pt. in Dorchester on a gas tank. It has been the subject of much controversy. People see many things in its simplicity... Freud, sports stars, oriental philosophers, etc..
Art is and always will be controversial and open to interpretation. That is its nature. (Even the waltz was once considered improper. ) Time has a way of moderating all art, while exposing pornography as the trash it is.

Art inspires imagination, and this certainly does that! A wonderful statement, Nancy, and a fabulous shot to bear it out. I find this uplifting....much more exciting than a plain white tank.

Great capture and narrative, Nancy. I thought it serendipitous that this was the spotlighted shot, just as I was reading your title: http://jpgmag.com/photos/2189787

I love this, Nancy. Did you know that from the shore side, the blue stripe contains a portrait of Ho Chi Minh?

Art is what I live for...I wouldn't know how to be without it, I wished I could paint our water tanks around the city :)

Love it when they display art like this. Have seen water towers back home that they've done this too.

I love the way the tank is painted! Don's link is the very reason I am stepping away from JPG, although at least the photo is not (at this moment) spotlighted.

What a great way to dress up an ugly thing. It now adds to the view instead of retracting. Keep those wonderful images coming Nancy. They will eventually over power the bad.

Excellent. When you pass it on the interstate you can see the profile of Ho Chi Minh...or at least we always thought so...
