Little girl looking out with a rose in her hand. I shot this many years ago with film; a Mamiya RZ67 medium format film camera. I had a home made filter in a box at the end of the lens; it was a piece of pantyhose that was sandwiched between two cardboard "frames" to keep it taut. I then took a box of matches and lit the match, then burned holes by blowing the match out and touching it to the nylon starting from dead center, then gradually growing larger to the size of a dime about. The hot match head melted the hole instantly, and the holes made a "sweet spot" of focus that was less gauzy than the rest.
In case you're interested, the little girl is my now 20 year old daughter (recent portraits are on my page too.)
In the story DIY filter with nylon.
