Shirls, I certainly saw a lot of "long-haired, freaky people," particularly at Nixon's inauguration parade in January, 1969. The VMI Corps of Cadets was assembled, ready to march, when we were approached by some fellow citizens (about our age), who were intent on putting long-stem flowers down the barrels of our M-1 rifles. It was all in good fun. We let them. That was so long ago . .
