This striking palace has become the symbol of the beautiful Italian mountain village of Gubbio, located in northern Umbria. Construction on it began in 1332 and was completed in 1389. In the Middle Ages the parliament of Gubbio met there. Today it is a fascinating museum.

NICE!!! I snicker when I hear about American towns and their "historic district," some of which are as much as 100 years old!

I am in awe of the history and what a beautiful picture of this building.

I too, like D. and Andrea, am in awe of such ancient worlds beyond our shores. Our little country may be ancient in terra firma, but establishment wise is only nearing a couple of hundred years old.
What a beautiful place Gubbio is.

Like Don, I have to realize that anything American is new compared to this! It is difficult to fathom the age of some of the buildings and artwork in Italy.
