Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it..Song of Solomon: 8:7

Mother will be released from the hospital tomorrow to go back to the Nursing Home. She is very confused ... has no memory of falling and she wonders why she is at the hospital. She feared she would have to be there for the rest of her life. This afternoon she starting choking on her food and I rushed out of the room to get help...Two nurses came to her rescue and got the situation under control...

Mom's mind is deteriorating and her dementia is getting increasingly worse. She asked me if I had seen Dennis, (my oldest brother who passed away April 6, 1973.) She said he had been to see her at the hospital....She also claimed a lady friend of hers (who had died several years ago) had been to see her... You get the picture.. .but she is my mother and I still love her. This is life and I have learned to accept what cannot be helped... I am just thankful that she is treated well at the Nursing Home and they take good care of her.

She is doing well physically from her fall considering it could have been worse but she has no concept of why she should not lean her weight on her right leg when the staff at the hospital tried to get her up and walking ( after the doctor inserted the rod in her femur bone that was fractured.)

Thank you so much Patty Gross for the generous spot light it is so appreciated!

Thanks to all who have responded, for your kindness ...You are a wonderful support group and I know that you truly understand ... I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Linda for your response....Mom is doing as well as can be expected physically from her fall but it will be hard to get her to understand why she should not put her full weight on the injured leg with her confused state of mind. That could be a concern for it to heal properly.

Beautiful portrait, Andrea. Love the teddy bear. My prayers continue. Your mother is blessed to have such a loving daughter. As a teenager I did volunteer work at a county nursing home. My heart ached for all the elderly there who rarely or never had visitors.

A very beautiful and touching portrait of you with your beloved Mother. Life goes full circle, doesn't it? Our parents take care of all our needs when we are young children, gradually allowing us to make our own decisions and find our path through life, but always remaining nearby along the sidelines in case we need their help. At the end of their journey, we find the situation is many times reversed, and we become the protector, the advisor and caregiver for our dear parents. You're a good daughter, Andrea, and most certainly an angel for your Mother. God bless and comfort both of you at this part of life's journey.

What a wonderful photo of the two of you. You are definitely living through a very trying time, but it's plain to see the love you share. Thank goodness you found a nursing home that gives her such good care!

Thank you everyone for your kind words...Yes, Susan the Nursing Home gives my mother excellent care and for that I am very relieved..My mother however does not fully comprehend why she cannot go back to her apartment to live...and asked me that question yesterday...I believe truth is the best policy and I told her that it is because of her forgetfulness. I also told her the apartment where she used to live is rented out to someone else now.... She could not deny what I told her..

Andrea...this portrait is the epitomy of Love......your love for your Mum, and your Mum's love to you. She may forget and return to to the safeness of childhood, or the past......the short term memory is not important to her's those special memories still locked in that she's trying so hard to hold on to. So glad that she is being taken care of so well. I wish you Strength, for the immediate road is hard. A beautiful, and lasting portrait of the two of you.

The most painful thing I have even been through was the same thing you are going through now. Do all you can- say the things you want to say so you will have no regrets. I am glad she is able to smile and enjoy her bear. :-) xoxoxo

Joerg, yes it is tough, but I would like to mention that Mom not only has me but my older sister has gone the extra mile and also my husband...and not to mention the many friends who are praying for her recovery...With all of these prayers I am encouraged that God still has a purpose for my mother's life...
as He does for each one of us.
