A SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE #25 – “WELCOME DOGGY DUDESâ€
If you love an image (whether it's yours or someone else's) and want to make sure others get a chance to see it, you can “feature” it by choosing the “Spotlight” button.
When an image is Spotlighted, it receives enhanced visibility in premium spots throughout the site. Spotlighted images are rotated through these higher-visibility positions to ensure the best opportunity for the images to be seen by JPG users.
If you see a great photo that would make a perfect entry for one of our Shoot Out photo contests but it was uploaded by another user, now you can enter that photo in the contest and, if it wins, you get to share in the contest winnings.
Like a photo editor, if you've got an eye for great work, find it and submit it to a contest. If it wins, since you staked the entry fee, you'll take home part of the prize (the rest, of course, goes to the member who shot the image).

[Zion National Park, Utah; June, 2011]
Two years ago, I wrote a “JPG†narrative, “The American West – Which Way?†Here’s what I said:
“What you see often depends on the direction you are driving.
“When driving a 3,000-mile loop in a week to ten days, time is critical. Such a demanding schedule leaves little room for error. There are no second chances.
“That is why it is so important to select the right routes, because there will be no time to go back. To illustrate the point, consider Zion National Park.
“Zion should be entered from the east (Mt. Carmel Junction). The descent to the valley floor is spectacular. You miss that effect when entering Zion from the southwest.â€
Well, guess what? This summer, I broke my own rule and entered Zion from the southwest, exactly what I said you shouldn’t do!
But, had I not broken my rule, I might not have seen the sign saying “WELCOME DOGGY DUDESâ€!!!
I knew that this was a “JPG moment.â€
I followed the arrow to the “Doggy Dude Ranch.†I mean, who wouldn’t?
Now I have all these national parks to revisit . . . from the “wrong†direction.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
