[Zion National Park, Utah; June, 2011]

Two years ago, I wrote a “JPG” narrative, “The American West – Which Way?” Here’s what I said:

“What you see often depends on the direction you are driving.

“When driving a 3,000-mile loop in a week to ten days, time is critical. Such a demanding schedule leaves little room for error. There are no second chances.

“That is why it is so important to select the right routes, because there will be no time to go back. To illustrate the point, consider Zion National Park.

“Zion should be entered from the east (Mt. Carmel Junction). The descent to the valley floor is spectacular. You miss that effect when entering Zion from the southwest.”

Well, guess what? This summer, I broke my own rule and entered Zion from the southwest, exactly what I said you shouldn’t do!

But, had I not broken my rule, I might not have seen the sign saying “WELCOME DOGGY DUDES”!!!

I knew that this was a “JPG moment.”

I followed the arrow to the “Doggy Dude Ranch.” I mean, who wouldn’t?

Now I have all these national parks to revisit . . . from the “wrong” direction.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Wonderful!! Zion is indeed breathtaking. We entered from the East and jaw-dropped all the way to the valley, along with about 2 rolls of film taken! I see why the Mormons named it such.

Well the sight of dudes and leashes and leather may be worth a peek just once ... not that there is anything wrong with that. It is a wonderful thing to break rules especially the ones imposed by oneself, get a different POV for sure. Nice set of images.

I have heard it said often that the rules that are not written on stone can be broken in photography...especially if it is to your advantage and it looks like you got some good results from going a different direction.

A great story! Sometimes "backward" works out well. Your shots of Zion Park are fantastic, and the Doggie Dude sign is in stark contrast. A great distraction.

LOL....I LOVE it!!!! And you know me....the original JPG rule breaker!! If you're not living life on the edge, well, you're just not living! So what did you learn from the Doggie Dudes?? Seriously, great shots of Zion; we used to spend Spring Break there every year with the children, and they still talk about our adventures!! Feel free to ask Kalli about her trail ride on the blind horse, or Luke about the windstorm that took our tent away, or Rase about the creature on the crest of the mountain. Yep....great memories!!

Well...hot doggie! If by not following the rules, I get to see scenery such as this, I say...why not? Those towering cliffs make one feel rather small. Outstanding images, BB.

Your showing landscapes I've never seen Dick, apart from movies! This is another classical collage of your wonderful country. LOL at your narrative, pity you took the advice of a sign, especially a "Doggy Dude" sign ☺. Think of it this way Dick, you now have another "AVENTURE BEFORE DEMENTURE".........hehehe ☺
