I consider myself an intelligent, clean, and strong willed person...except for this nasty addiction I picked up in a act of rebellion at the age of 14. Now, when I see a teenager smoking, I think they look ridiculous. When I see a woman smoking, I think about how unattractive it is. I hate the way they smell. I worry everytime I get a chest xray. I have tried Chantix, cold turkey, gum, and praying...still, I smoke. I am down to less than a pack a day which is better than the four packs I used to smoke.

Looks good, no matter how bad it might be. You don't have to smoke. All you need is a strong enough desire to quit and the believe that it's easy.

You can do it!!! I applaud you for keeping on trying to quit and for being down to a fraction of what you used to smoke. My dad quit cold turkey after his brothers began coming down with lung problems and dying from them, one of my brothers quit cold turkey also. A friend had cancer of the bladder and kept getting tumors coming back. They told her that if she would quit smoking the tumors would quit coming so she quit cold turkey and hasn't had a single tumor since. Fortunately, I never smoked beyond trying it and not really liking it. Ed never smoked either So GO GIRL GO, keep on cutting down and then you might just be able to quit!

fantastic shot, fantastic story. Don't beat yourself up about this nasty habit. When the time is right, you'll have the strength you need to put them down for good.

Such a striking image. I believe you will find a way to quit. My husband Fred used to smoke three packs a day. He quit cold turkey when he found out I was pregnant with our daughter. That was 38 years ago. He hasn't touched a cig since then.

David quit cold turkey in the midst of a coughing fit, and I stopped after using one box of Nicorette. That was over ten years ago. It's one of the best decisions we ever made (and we had both smoked for over 40 years.) It is true about bladder cancer, as Dave's doctor told him it is the #1 cause of bladder cancer.....using any type of tobacco. I know you can do this!! YOU ARE WOMAN!!!!!

Love the photo. On the smoking side, I can't talk. I smoked for 37 years, and what finally made me quit (with the help of the patch) was my daughter and daughter-in-law (both pregnant) saying they wouldn't bring their kids to my house if I still smoked... That was 6 years ago and I don't miss it one bit; I can afford better camera gear now, too ;-)

Wonderful shot! And, yeah - totally get it! When I was 12 I thought smoking would make me 'fit in.' It took me until I was 20 to stop... And I still have one when I'm stressed and my best girlfriend comes over :-/ What helped me was telling my body that, if it's really bad for me, make me hate it. I know, sounds crazy - but it worked! I must admit, it also helped that my husband quit cold turkey at the same time and was a constant support - but my body also started rejecting it. Now more than that one when I am stressed will make me sick. More than 2 in 24 hours will make me puke. I used to sit down and smoke 6-8 of those death sticks in one sitting. I know you can stop if you really want to! And you breath so much easier when you do ;) Again, wonderful shot!

I think there may be a personality type (perhaps Type A with embellishements and a smidge of psychosis on a side plate) that just cannot put them down. It is birthed in rebellion and taken on as one's persona. It is the ultimate 'yeah... make me' behavior. I have spent more than a minute drawing a bead on my foot and firing over the years. All that's left now is a nub and a half.
