Q: My sister in-law recently gave me a Canon EOS 10D digital camera body. Having only used point and shoot cameras, what would be a good beginners lens to get for this camera? Should I get kit lens to start with?

A: Do you know?

After shooting events long enough, it finally dawned (photographic pun intended) on me that I should post some of the wedding shots that are my bread and butter. In this profession, we are creators for hire. It behooves us to attempt to create something new for each client. Whether they realize how difficult that may be is irrelevant. It would be less noble if we allowed ourselves to copy ourselves than to create something that makes us go "ooooh, me likee!" at least once a session.

This couple asked me to recreate a shot I have in my shop, a shot that my print shop guy told me pushed me over the edge from "very good" to "profesionally recommendable". In the end, after I had shot what they wanted and while walking back to our cars, I saw the color (bonus for living in the desert) and the "backdrop". "Hey guys...uh, could I borrow you guys for just a sec?? There's an itch I gotta scratch."

They chose this shot.

Only contrast and cropping in editing.
