Q: My sister in-law recently gave me a Canon EOS 10D digital camera body. Having only used point and shoot cameras, what would be a good beginners lens to get for this camera? Should I get kit lens to start with?

A: Do you know?

Red-breasted Sapsucker. A member of the woodpecker family. So engrossed in the task at hand we got within 5 feet of him. Still didn't fly, just ran up and around to the back of the tree.

WOW! These guys are usally so hard to photograph. They stay up top and move to the other side. You nailed the focus and even got a catch light. Awesome.

Thanks Elfriede, I'll point that out to Joyce -- she took this one, and the one of the grey jay. She has far more patience than I on the wildlife shots, and a far better eye.

He's got his beady on on you and Joyce, OC.....But he's showing off his Christmas red. He's picking away at the moss....too early to gather for nests?

A perfect title for this excellent capture!!! I get Sapsuckers here each year and I know how difficult they can be to get a decent photo of them : )
