I had a black and white photo similar to this in a photo class. This one is way better than what I submitted.

Allan ~ Here's the silly part. We had to make a run to Linens for Less. I had my camera so I took it in the store. I just snapped stuff if it looked at all promising and, voila. All the work was done by someone else. I just made a few setting adjustments and clicked.

I think I'm going to have to go into a Linens for Less...this is one of the BEST B&W images I have seen in a while, because of the lighting, this has brought out so many tones, great contrast, and I can see this matted & framed :) Someone else might have set up the still life, the lighting may have come from the store, but you had the great eye to compose and capture! Well done!

Had to check this out in lightbox, it let me know that this would be awesome in a white mat, so all tones will pop! The composition made my eyes go back and forth each side was competing for attention :)

Good eye to find this while shopping. What I like most is the slightly out of focus patterned cloth background. The pattern looks like steam rising from the cup.

Great black and white, so sharp with a range of tones from black to white and everything in between. Loved it. I'll need to look closer when out and about. Just like Bert, I thought at first glance, the background pattern was steam, love it, great.
