[South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Minolta Hi-Matic 11, 35 mm SLR, Kodak slide film]

During our two years in Colorado (1971-73), Linda and I had a chance to visit the Grand Canyon several times. Over the years, we have returned, but now we visit the North Rim, which is more remote and not nearly as crowded.

Citi-Bank’s recent television commercial went “viral.” The public wanted more information about the video and especially about the song that accompanied the video.

The song is called “Into the Wild,” and it is performed by “LP.”

When I first heard “LP,” it brought back memories of Linda Ronstadt’s “Distant Drum,” which she recorded with the Stone Poneys in 1967. It has been that long since I have heard a voice with the power and range of “LP.”

I am linking the Citi-Bank commercial and two uploads of “Into the Wild.” In one photo, LP is shown with “TCB” and lightning bolts tattooed on her arm. “TCB” (“Taking Care of Business”) and the lightning bolts were Elvis’ trademarks, so that is another reason to like LP!

Click on the links and enjoy the video and the music. LP is a unique talent.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

[Thank you, Donna, for the spotlight!]

I love this capture! I looked back at all my Grand Canyon shots looking for this particular spot! I found it, the tree is now taller and almost blocking this fantastic view! Glad you posted this. The 3 links are awesome! Yes, I do love that song and commercial and wonder if that was real, that she really climb that rocks!

What a shot! It's so impressive, no matter which vantage point you visit! This shot reminds me of the wonderful meet-up in Arizona, including that amazing trip to the Canyon. I absolutely love that commercial, but must admit between the climbers and the incredible vista I didn't even notice the song!! I'm not familiar with the artist, so will have to go to iTunes and check out her music.

Grand Canyon is certainly the largest and most majestic monument that nature has built it because we could envy her beauty. I recently saw a documentary that tells the ancient history. It 'time available to the world that has allowed the construction. The picture is certainly beautiful, but you have to see in person to truly appreciate. thanks Dick

I like the muted color in this. Goes to show that aging is not just a destructive process, but also a creative process.

A beautiful memory! Our trip to AZ is one of my favorites. The Grand Canyon was a major highlight. I am so glad we were able to get there in spite of the snowstorm. I like the way you have tied the commercial and the song together with it. Now when I hear this song it will recall images and memories of our great "adventure." So fitting. Wonderful submission, Dick.

Nobody has asked....but is the handsome dude with the '70's hairstyle...you BB? What an amazing vista......Yes you would have to be there to experience the wonder of it all. But I think you have certainly done it justice. Incredible! As is the smokey voice of the singer in the Into the Wild song. Wonder what Janice Joplin would have sounded like singing this?

Great 'memory lane' photo of a wonderful place. Thanks for the links as well. I too wonder with Suzanne Mc. how Janice J. would have done on this one. There are some portions that remind me of early Cher as well.
