This is what we saw through the window on Valentine's Day at 8:30 AM... but these guys come to the feeder no matter what the weather condition...and of course we scraped the snow off shortly after I shot this picture.
If you feed birds, the squirrels come along with the package. From my observation there seems to be a mutual understanding between these creatures that the squirrel eats first and what is left is for the birds, but that's how they keep the peace in their kingdom. Of course we have to keep refilling the feeder so that everyone is happy:)

In our yard, the birds seem to eat first and the squirrels get the leftovers. This is cute little guy...looks like he managed to get a meal out of you.

A terrific close-up shot of this fuzzy little fellow! He's obviously enjoying his treats, too. It used to be that way here, too, but for some reason the squirrels now only dine on spruce cones.. something must have spooked them off in a big way.. probably our dog Dixie..

This is an excellent capture of the squirrel on the feeder. We do not have many squirrels in our neighborhood, but when I have bird seed out what squirrels there are find their way to eat from the feeder. Now I have a hawk watching the birds. He's a beauty but I don't like it that he is looking for birds to catch. I guess that is just natures way.
