Visited my friend's Mani home village. His mother house lays among the family's sugar cane fields and that day the brothers and in-laws were busy fixing the well's water pump in the hallway to the house as the women prepared lunch.
We all sat and had the south Indian rice and veg sides while the baby was the center of attention.
Later I helped them carry the heavy pump to the well.
They also grow turmeric roots of a special variety that is sold as chicken feed.
Their old home used to be where now a red brick factory stands, as the local red soil is the right type for kiln burning. I posted some photos here earlier of my visit there. The house still stands on a hill that stayed at ground level while all the surroundings were dug out and became building bricks.
