Imperialism

I heard a quote on telly the other day from an elderly lady commenting on the state of fear in the world by saying there are more flags now in the world than there were in her day. More flag waving. I thought that was interesting, especially in the current political climate.

This shot was taken at the Washington monument and has sparked a bit of controversy for me on old Red Bubble by some people feeling offended by the title. I stand by it. For me, taking the flags out of the colours that we know them to be challenges our view. It also speaks volumes, I hope, about America's role in the world today. I'm not anti-American at all but anyone would agree that the American culture is everywhere. I kind of hope this photo makes people think about that woman's comments and about the times we live in, whatever their conclusions may ultimately be...

sadness is that in this country, sometimes more value is placed on that flag than on the lives lost to fight for our "freedom". stand by your title, it's spot on.

For me, the US are not a symbol of democracy. Don't forget that they established dictatorship in South America.
Moreover, the laws are made by various lobbies (agroalimentary, petroleum, etc) against environmental protection or public health.
But I hope that the first world power will make progress in those fields

And that is why millions and millions of people across the globe risk everything to pull up stakes and move to the USA, because they are such terrible imperialists.
