My Grandpa was a Dutch Master, from Holland. The straw hat, sitting on top of a pile of old upholstery fabric, was his. He and his three boys, were schooled in furniture and design. He came to the United States after the Holocaust in Europe. Opa, and Oma, bought a home in salt lake city. Together with their boys, they built a shop, where they reupholstered beautiful furniture.
The shop was adjoined to the house, the garden and the patio. The attic was Grandpa's space, filled with all the dreams of a child. When the children got bored, with the talk, talk, talk, of the adults, Grandpa took us upstairs to play. We played dress up, with all the old hats clothes, and wooden shoes, and we laughed.
To walk through this door...... fills me with memories, of very close family ties, we love, we laugh, we dance. my continuance.
My uncle works part time at the shop, (he is 90 years old), and he uses the same Singer sewing machine that the family brought with them, from Europe over 60 years ago.
