"Winning should be the fate" - light installation by Giancarlo Neri
"Cretto", Gibellina 2010 (37°47′17.09″N 12°58′16.62″E)
The Cretto of Burri.
The genesis of the work is attributed to the destruction of the city of Gibellina (now called Old Gibellina) caused by the earthquake of Belice January 14, 1968. The power of the earthquake completely destroyed the city, leaving the majority of homeless families.
Burri designed a gigantic monument of death that goes through the streets and alleys of the old city: in fact it is the same place where once there was rubble, today "cemented" by the work of Burri.
Top view the work appears as a series of fractures of cement on the ground, whose artistic value lies in the freezing of the historical memory of a country.
The "Cretto" is one of the largest works of contemporary art in the world.
