Ah, the running joke of life in Nebraska: You’ve been to the Stonehenge of North America, right?
My documentation of western Nebraska could scarcely be called complete without at least one image from this iconic–or ironic–landmark near Alliance. A set of cars buried in a pasture, made in the image of England’s Stonehenge, draws hundreds of visitors every year, and it also adds a tongue-in-cheek cultural asterisk to life here.
That said, as I began working the site on a Friday morning in mid-March, I felt like I could add a degree of honor and impressiveness to the piece of oft-maligned, famous installation art.
