MAYDAY!! BMEF Fundraiser 2012 in Kensington Market, Toronto, Canada on Sat. May 5 2012.

A traditional LeMans start to the alleycat race. All the bikes are laid down on the road and all the racers line up off to the side. The race starter does a countdown then yells !GO!. The riders run to their bikes and speed off to the first checkpoint. Very chaotic.

The Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund is a non profit organization that provides emergency compensation to bicycle messengers who are hurt on the job. Please consider a donation to this 501 c3 non profit public charity.

Hi Pedro. The Le Mans start was used during car races. The cars were lined up on the track and the drivers lined up at the side of the track. The race would start with the drivers running to their cars, strapping themselves in then driving off. It was eventually banned because it was thought to be to dangerous. Wikipedia for more info: .

This pic is at the start line of the annual Mayday Bike Race here in Toronto to raise money for and awareness of The Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund. The Le Mans start has been adapted and is used to start the race.
