My mother deserved so much more in exchange for her endurance of such deprivation, abuse, loss, and pain. And through it all lived and worked with laughter and joy--finding the good in everything, because Christ was at the center of her soft and creative heart. She was the one I turned to, in order to emulate what she had. We were able to have closure before she passed, and we both had a good cry. I would have given my life to take her place--that last day. Some days I wake and say," I must call her today".--totally forgeting that she had passed. I believe her spirit has never left us. Thanks Momma

Wonderful way to honor your Mom James. I lost my Mom in 1999.Seems like yesterday. I HAVE picked up the phone before and dialed her number. Guess it's the days that i miss her the most.

A moving and wonderful tribute to your lovely mother. I miss my mother too. There is comfort in knowing that it won't be that long before we will be together in a perfect place.

A wonderful tribute to your mama. I still want to call my grandmother about the little everyday things.

This reminds me of a Charles Bukowski verse
A Smile To Remember
we had goldfish and they circled around and around
in the bowl on the table near the heavy drapes
covering the picture window and
my mother, always smiling, wanting us all
to be happy, told me, 'be happy Henry!'
and she was right: it's better to be happy if you
can
but my father continued to beat her and me several times a week while
raging inside his 6-foot-two frame because he couldn't
understand what was attacking him from within.
my mother, poor fish,
wanting to be happy, beaten two or three times a
week, telling me to be happy: 'Henry, smile!
why don't you ever smile?'
and then she would smile, to show me how, and it was the
saddest smile I ever saw
one day the goldfish died, all five of them,
they floated on the water, on their sides, their
eyes still open,
and when my father got home he threw them to the cat
there on the kitchen floor and we watched as my mother
smiled
You almost have to be there to really 'get' it.
Beautiful portrait of a beautiful lady.
